Textured Beauty Spotlight!

Here at Ms. Naturally Random, I love to share. That's what blogging is all about, right?! I'm always out and about seeing fabulous natural ladies.

Choosing to wear my hair naturally as well, I understand that for a lot of us, our stories are very similar. Yet, its always good to learn from someone else. Our skin tone, bone structure and hair textures are all different. So, even though our end result "We're natural" is the same, I'd like to celebrate our differences and hopefully share some insight into others "natural hair journeys" as I continue my own.

Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with a "Textured Beauty"and I wanted to share a few bits of our conversation via a Question and Answer session.

Q: Introduce yourself!
A: Hi! My name is Rebecca and I am a proud natural mommy of two boys. I am a natural hair, makeup, and fashion lover but always budget conscientious.  I can be found on Instagram and twitter as, naturallyfabmom ; my lifestyle blog is in the works so stay tuned!

Q: Why did you make the decision to go natural?
A: I decided to go natural because I was almost 40 and I noticed that a lot of women my age had thinning hair and they attributed their hair loss to the 20+ years of relaxers. I didn't want my hair to thin like theirs because so much of my self worth came from my thick long relaxed tresses.

Q: When and how did you transition into natural hair?
A: Like I stated I have always had long hair so I wasn't planning on cutting my BSL hair. So, I transitioned for 2 LONG years. I wore weaves, blow outs and roller sets. I was determined NOT to cut my hair. Well one day I tried a new "natural" stylist and I told him to trim my ends instead he cut off all of my scraggly permed ends! My hair was shoulder length! I was mad and happy at the same time. I cried because I thought that my hair was ugly and I had no idea how to style it!

Q: In what ways (if any) has "going natural" affected you?
A: Natural hair has really changed my ideas of what beauty really is. Now I find that the women I think are beautiful are the ones with the funky Afros, twists, and braids: the women who look like me.

Q: What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
A: My biggest natural hair mistakes were not doing my big chop sooner and heat styling my hair way too often. I still have some hair in the front that will not curl probably due to heat styling.

Q: What is your go-to hairstyle?
A: My go to style is my twist and curl. I love fluffy curls!

Q: Name a "Random" fact about you?
A: Random fact: I may be into hair and makeup but I love sports!
