Mini Life Update | Blog Hiatus: Why I've Been Posting Less & A Little Update

First off, let’s address the elephant in the room. I’ve been absent from consistently posting to my blog for months now. I know, what about consistency, right? Well, I’m back now and I am ready to talk! So, here goes!

Let’s get real  and start here - consistently blogging and sharing online can be quite the task. For some, it’s their actual full time job. Whether it’s been a week, a month or even a year, there is hope to resume! A great place to start is figuring out the creative consistency part of it all. #TransparencyMoment I’m writing for you to read this but I’m also speaking directly to myself. I think producing anything creative initially is self-serving and rightfully so. If it doesn’t make me feel good, then I have a right to let it go.

If you’re in a place like me, here are a few tips to help you get back into the consistently creating:

Rediscover Your Purpose

Without purpose as a guide, your goals may not ultimately fulfill you. Purpose helps us to accomplish meaningful things in meaningful ways. In my opinion, an awesome way to reconnect with what matters to you most is stepping away from your routine for a while. You will feel called back to it at some point. Sharing your creation should be assigned a secondary effort but the act of creation itself can manifest as a need within us, that ultimately must be satisfied.

Review Your Old Content

I have a quote posted in my bedroom that I pass daily. It states, “Stop living in the past...you weren’t even happy then BUT have the opportunity to cultivate happiness NOW!” Yes, it starts off a bit melancholy for sure, yet the point it is to strive to make every new day matter. I apply this to writing as well. It does not mean that the entire past is viewed as negative. I suggest taking stock in the bright spots you experienced along the way and assess what creatively inspired you during those times. Are your motivations the same or have they changed? For all content creators, this may mean deleting posts that don’t serve your new purpose and in some cases your new voice may deserve an entire re-brand. If older creations meet your new purpose, take some time to remodel them for today. A great way to do this is by updating pictures and ensuring you have no broken or outdated links.

Create A Schedule (but make it realistic)

Develop an overall content strategy and stick to it! This is a struggle for me. Hence, even needing to write a hiatus post in the first place. I know that creating a schedule will totally simplify my life. I think in the past, trying to post everywhere would get chaotic and when I would miss a day, I would really beat myself up about it. It would spiral into eventually not posting any content interconnected to that original piece. Creating a content calendar makes everything more manageable. The focus now is practicing restraint on when and where I decide to share, setting more achievable goals, and determining my optimal posting schedule.

A part of me deciding to revive this blog is to add a little sunshine to my atmosphere. I hope to find you well as we cross paths on our newsfeed, web calls and inboxes!
