Motherhood | Mama-To-Be: Registry Blues

Hello lovelies!

The weeks are flying by, Christmas is near and very soon we'll be introducing 2014! Well yesterday hubby and I finally had to some free time so we decided to discuss what we'd need (in more detail than previous conversations) for our bundle of joy!

We'll need to do a registry soon. I often feel like with all the mothers I know, some veteran moms and some newbie moms, that I have a tons of people to lean on for advice. I understand that I (along with my husband) will ultimately decide what is best for the baby and our family but it just helps to get some insight from those that have done this "parenthood" thing before!

So that is what I'm looking for today. To all the parents out there, what is something you that you totally didn't think of when preparing for your little one to arrive?

Was it something you wish you had/brought with you during delivery?

Something you wish you'd put on your registry?

Something you eventually figured out was a waste of money?

We all know that you can't prepare for everything life brings but I'm just curious if there is a commonality in our experiences...

Help a soon-to-be Mama out!

  1. I would suggest putting aty least 3 different bottles types an d bibs bibs and more bibs on your registry. Gosh I am not sure on what was figured out to be a waste of money because it all depends upon your little pumkin. Brooke hated the bouncer so I gave it to a Soror who baby loved it. So I belive it has alot to do with the personality as far a big ticket items go. Pack the pacifier you want your baby to use because when I had Brooke they said they did not give themto babies anymore and you may not want to start your baby on a pacifier you can only get from the hospital. I think that it for now!

    1. Hmm...I didn't know that hospitals didn't give pacifiers! Thanks for the input. There will be more "Mama-to-Be" posts coming soon!

Shana this help me soo much as far as what to bring to the hospital. Thos swaddler blankets were a big waste of money for me. Also as beautiful as it is..in my case his bassinet unfortunately was a waste of money, he slept in it maybe one or two nights of his life lol. Also I would suggest maybe to not buy alot of lotions and things until you learn your baby's skin..I have A TON of lotions, washs, etc that we cant use.

  3. I am first time mom and I wanted my Elliot to have everything monogrammed. Uhh... bad idea because her bibs would cover all the cute writing that I paid tons for. A bassinet for the first few weeks is a must have until baby transitions to the crib. I also love the tommy tippy bottle because they tell you if the bottle is hot or cold. They grow so fast that I didn't use any of my 0-3 month clothes for more than a week. Enjoy your time looking and buying baby stuff.

    1. Hey Soror! I can imagine what a little spit up on a beautiful monogrammed bib looks like! I was on the fence about the bassinet as well. Thanks for reading!

  4. Oh man, I have so many things that it's too much to type. Try different bottle types but don't buy whole sets until you know which ones the baby likes because you'll have a whole set that you can't return staring at you being useless. I like the Avent natural nipple ones because they are closest to what a real nipple is like and that makes it easy to switch between the two. Waterproof bibs will be your best good friend when teething begins. Which, by the way, can start as early as 2 months. Brooke started at almost 4 months and is a drool machine, lol. The Carter's brand at Target sells the best waterproof bibs in the entire world, I promise. I went from changing Brooke's clothes 3 or 4 times a day to changing her bib a few times. As for the hospital bag, go with what Tecia said. I was ridiculous. We had 5 bags between the 2 of us, lol. I was very prepared but most of it wasn't necessary. I'll be back with more later . . .

    1. Aww, Brookie-pooh just leaving her "sugah" everywhere. Thats what my fam calls drool, "sugah". And Yea, I figured as such about the multiple bottle types. It figures my kid will be bourgeois and choosy about everything! lol Thanks for the reply.

  5. When I had my first baby I really wanted CHAP-STICK in the hospital. I know we're talking registry right now, but this was the one thing I didn't have...screw everything else at that moment. My mouth was on fire!
You should have a first aid kit and the baby 1st safety kit (awesomeness). Diapers in other sizes besides newborn...they don't stay that way. 3 (or more) sets of crib sheets. Waste of time.....um the bottle warmer. I felt like I was operating a chemistry set! Too many steps to take when I can just run it under hot water.

    1. One more thing...depending on your labor and your medicated state...something to do. We brought our game system and played video games.

  7. Have more than one person to depend on to get you to the hospital, hubby may be unavailable God forbid.
Music, I wish I had taken some form of music with me.
A lot of bibs, t-shirts, and different types of binkys.
Bassinets are a big waste, seems like a good ideal to be able to move bassinet from room to room but baby doesn't get to use it for very long.
Babies grow pretty fast as you & hubby will find out for yourselves.

  8. Omg...there's so much. I would say go with gut feeling that's what I did. Everyone wanted to tell me how, when, what, where to do with my baby. I did what I felt like was best for Lia. Waste of money CLOTHES AND SHOES...grow out of them so quickly. Lia didn't get to wear half of the things she got. I wasn't prepared for how much a baby cost...to this day it still blows my mind on how much children can cost u, but I would not charge anything because Lia is the best blessing god has giving me. U look at life totally different. I would say enjoy EVERY MOMENT because it goes by so fast. Having a baby is a life changing experience. Spoil Ms. Sky rotten lol.
